Academic research benefits immensely from international contacts and cooperation. The German Government supports academic exchanges between Germany and foreign countries in a variety of forms. Grants are available both for German scientists and scientists from abroad. In addition there are numerous programmes to support international projects in order to promote cooperation between German and foreign academic institutes.
Germany and Brazil have been partners in science and research for more than 40 years. To celebrate this successful partnership and give it new impetus, German Federal Research Minister Professor Annette Schavan and Brazilian Research Minister Professor Sérgio Rezende jointly opened the German-Brazilian Year of Science, Technology and Innovation 2010/11 in São Paulo on 12 April 2010. Numerous activities will take place in both countries between April 2010 and April 2011 under the slogan sustainable:innovative. The aim is to jointly find sustainable and innovative solutions to the great challenges of our time.
