Centre for International Development and Environmental Research (CER)
Purpose/Activities
This Centre for International Development and Environmental Research (CER, German ZEU) was founded in 1997 and, since 1999, has operated as an interdisciplinary research institute at the Justus Liebig University Giessen. At present, the departments of agricultural science, nutritional science, geography, environmental security and economics are involved.
The CER carries out interdisciplinary research projects on basic questions related to development and ecological policies, and publishes its findings in its own publication series. The CER also organises symposia and lectures and is involved in the organisation of the awards to development countries of the JLU and the selection of the winners.
Current projects are being carried out or prepared in eastern Europe, in a number of east-Asian and south-east-Asian countries, the successor states to the Soviet Union, in the Middle East as well as in Latin America.
