Villa Aurora

Purpose/ Activities

Villa Aurora as an artists residence and place of cultural meetings promotes the German-American cultural exchange in the field of literature, music, fine arts and film. As a House of Remind it bears the memory of all grand artists who find asylum in California during the time of National Socialism and greatly influenced the cultural life of the American West Coast.

Villa Aurora’s main focus places on the Fellowship Programme for Artists enabling the exhibitioners to realise their projects and to showcase their work in films, expositions, concerts and readings. Important goal is the networking of the exhibitioners with distinguished culture institutions in Los Angeles as well as German intermediary organisations in North America.

In addition, every year the Villa offers the Feuchtwanger Fellowship.

Villa Aurora as a cultural institution has got two places of location: the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles and the Villa Aurora Forum in Berlin.

The Villa Aurora Forum in Berlin organises the annual jury selection of the fellowship recipients. During the yearly social event - the "Villa Aurora Night" - the newly selected artists are presented to the public and the results of the artists' work created in Los Angeles are shown in screenings, exhibitions, readings and concerts. The Forum also realises a variety of publications and events which reflect the artistic projects created at Villa Aurora.

In cooperation with local partners Villa Aurora arranges cultural activities. Besides exclusive programmes concerning the cultural exchange between Berlin and Los Angeles, Germany and the USA are happen.
