Purpose/Activities

 

MISEREOR is the development aid organisation of the Catholic church.

 

Together with local partners, it supports the poorest of the poor of every col-our, creed and culture. Our projects help people to help themselves and aim for a long-term, sustained improvement of their living situation. MISEREOR also supports the poor by claiming for them their basic rights.

 

Our donors have made it possible, since 1958, for us to run or sponsor 100.000 projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

 

With its fasting campaign, MISEREOR makes every Catholic parish in Ger-many aware of the needs of the poor in the ‘Third World’. The collects taken in every Catholic parish in Germany on the Sunday before Easter go to MISEREOR.

 

MISEREOR also fights for the human rights of the poor through political lob-bying and public campaigns in Germany. Our information and educational service raises public awareness of the problems and interests of the peoples in the southern hemisphere.

 

The German Central Institute for Social Issues has awarded MISEREOR its Spendensiegel (charity rating) to confirm that the organisation uses donations efficiently and appropriately and to recommend MISEREOR as a responsible charity.
