International Theatre Institute (ITI), German centre

Purpose/Activities

The ITI is a global theatre network under the umbrella of the UNESCO which for over fifty years has promoted the meeting and sharing of ideas of theatre people and a better intercultural understanding through the stage. The German ITI centre pursues four core aims and activities:

circulating information to and from national centres about developments in the different national theatre landscapes,

organising exchanges between theatre people (study trips, working visits, commissioned stagings),

organising international theatre projects (publications, symposia, workshops) and the festival THEATER DER WELT ('Theatre of the World') and the PLATTFORM GEGENWARTSTHEATER ('Platform Contemporary Theatre'),

advising German cultural policy-makers on questions of international co-operation in the field of the performing arts.
