The German Organisation for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) is now the GIZ - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit. Established on 1 January 2011, The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH brings together under one roof the long-standing expertise of the Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED) gGmbH (German Development Service), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH (German Technical Cooperation) and Inwent – Capacity Building International, Germany. For further information, go to www.giz.de.
The German Organisation for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. GTZ’s aim is to improve the living conditions and perspectives of people in developing and transition countries.
It also undertakes commissions for other government departments, for governments of other countries, for international clients such as the European Commission, the United Nations or the World Bank, as well as for private-sector corporations. The GTZ operates on a public-benefit basis. Any surpluses are exclusively rechanelled into its own development-cooperation projects.
GTZ is a corporation under private law; the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is its main financing organisation.
GTZ cooperates with other development-aid organisations, like the German Development Service (DED), the German Investment and Development Society (DEG), the Credit Institute for Reconstruction (KfW) as well as politically oriented foundations, churches and other NGOs.
Within the Public-Private Partnership-Programme (PPP) the GTZ cooperates with the private sector and combines the interests of business and industry on the one hand and those of development-aid institutions on the other.
The GTZ offers the following training programmes:
the three-month Internship Programme for students of intermediate diploma or comparable level matriculated at a university, whose professional disciplines are needed in GTZ services.
the Project Assistant Programme for university graduates, preferably in the disciplines of economics, administrative and social sciences, agriculture and forestry, environmental technology and economy, medicine, geography and vocational training. This programme generally takes 24 months to complete - four-month preparatory phase in Germany, 20-month practical training in a local project abroad.
