German Literature Fund

Purpose/Activities

 

Promotion of contemporary German literature.

 

Activities in detail:

supporting qualified German-speaking (writing) authors and translators

supporting nation-wide literary initiatives and pilot projects to encourage reading and to strengthen public interest in and recognition of literature. Support is granted on informal request in the form of working scholarships of up to € 2,000 per month for a maximum period of one year.

Every year, the German Literature Fund endows the 'Kranichsteiner Literature Award', endowed with € 20,000, ever one grant for a ten-week stay at New York University's German House respectively the Queen Mary College of the University of London. Moreover the German Literature Fund awards the 'Kranichsteiner Literature Promotion Award', endowed with € 5,000.

The Paul Celan Award (€ 15,000) is awarded in recognition of outstanding translations of French literature.

Since 2010 on occasion of the Leipzig book fair the German Literature Fund in cooperation with the Working Group on German Youth Literature grants scholarships to authors of books for young people. These scholarships are endowed with € 12,000. Blind applications are not valid to selection process.

School or University working groups on German Literature that intend to organise an author's lecture can apply for a subsidy.
