Purpose/Activities

 

The German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ) is an independent research institution and mandated by the Foundation German Institutes of Humanities Abroad (DGIA). The research institute seeks to research contemporary Japan, its economy, society, politics, and culture, thereby bilateral relations between Germany and Japan, both in the past and at present, should receive special attention.

 

To the tasks of the institute belongs:

to develop a research agenda,

to provide doctoral fellowships to graduate students and to support their studies in Japan,

to seek the cooperation of Japanese institutions and scholars.

The German Institute for Japanese Studies maintains a specialised library and sees itself as a centre for research on Japan, actively involved in international cooperation.

further publikations.
