German Historical Institute Warsaw (DHI Warschau)

Purpose/Activities

 

The German Historical Institute Warsaw is an independent research institution and mandated by the foundation German Institutes of Humanities Abroad (DGIA). It does research on German-Polish relations and runs comparative studies especially in the fields of sociology as well as the history and historiography of Poland and Germany.

 

Activities in detail:

organising expert conferences and research projects,

granting student and research scholarships,

giving information and organising scientific exchanges, mainly between Poland and Germany, but also with scientific institutions in other countries.

 

In addition, the institute publishes research findings, source material on Polish-German relations and historical analyses in German and/or Polish (translations). Once a year it publishes the 'Bulletin'.

The Institute's reference library contains 75.000 books and 315 journals on the subjects of German and Polish history and German-Polish relations. The library also collects titles on Jewish history and overview publications.
