The German Development Institute is a interdisciplinary research institute and Think Tank for German and multilateral development policy. Based on independent research findings is works as an adviser in Germany and worldwide and deals with current issues in cooperation with industrial and developing countries. Its scientific section results from the interaction of research, consulting and education.
The German Development Institute is divided in the departments
Bi- and Multilateral Development Cooperation,
Competitiveness and Social Development,
Governance, Statehood, Security,
Environmental Policy and Management of Natural Resources,
World Economy and Development Financing,
In line with the Postgraduate Training Programme the German Development Institute prepares German and European university graduates for the tasks in the international development cooperation and aims to qualify future responsible persons.
Alongside it offers highly qualified young professionals from the countries Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Pakistan and South Africa a further training at the Global Governance School, that is a part of the training and dialogue programme Managing Global Governance organised together with InWEnt.
The German Development Institute possesses a public reference library with some 48,000 volumes, 150 national and international periodicals and the most important German and English daily and weekly newspapers. It is a member of the German Information Network International Relations and Area Studies (FIV-IBLK).
