IAESTE places senior students of engineering and natural sciences (who have completed their basic studies) in industry for practical courses.

All the member countries have a National Committee (NC), often also Local Committees (LC) at one or several universities. In Germany, the NC is repre-sented by a department of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The LCs receive applications for practical courses abroad and organise, free of charge, mostly eight- to twelve-week traineeships in industry, technical and other service companies as well as research institutions.

The LCs also look after foreign students locally. This includes helping them find accommodation and overcome bureaucratic hurdles and informing them on op-portunities for recreational activities. In this, the committees work closely with the German Committee of AIESEAPPROX.
