The Professional Association of German as a foreign language (FaDaF) promotes intercultural encounters by means of language courses of German as a foreign language. Promoting mutual cultural understanding is an objective of particular concern to the FaDaF's programmes and language courses.
The FaDaF's fields of activity comprise:
support and representation of lecturers' and students' interests who participate in the 'German as a foreign language' (DaF) respectively 'German as a second language' (DaZ) language programme,
profession related further training in foreign languages,
promotion of German language courses outside university,
improving general conditions for students taking study courses abroad,
promotion of dialogue and exchanges of opinions among DaF-/DaZ-institutions at a regional level,
cooperation in Europe-wide foreign language projects,
support of German academics, lecturers and other teaching staff of German as a foreign language (DaF)/German as a second language (DaZ) at universities in Germany and abroad,
information on research projects dealing with German as a foreign language (DaF)/German as a second language (DaZ) and initiation of new research projects,
support of DaF study fields and DaF preparatory colleges in higher education policy,
support of young academics taking a DaF/DaZ-teacher training,
organisation of colloquia and congresses on higher education policy issues and university matters.
