The DVV (German Adult Education Association) is the federal umbrella association for the 16 regional associations of Germany's community adult education centres and runs a head office and a number of institutions to support its members and carry out the duties of the association, funded by membership fees from the regional associations. The work of the DVV and its institutions is subsidised through special-purpose government and government agency funds (from the Foreign Office and the ministries BMBF, BMFSFJ, BMI, BMZ), the federal states, the EU and other public sources.
The Association promotes adult education, furthers education and general educational at the Adult Education Colleges and represents the interests of the regional associations at national (federal) level, in particular by
promoting co-operation and sharing of experience among its members
developing principles and guidelines
representing education in general and the work of the association in particular at government level
promoting the quality of adult education in Germany
promoting international co-operation in the field

dvv international is the Institute of International Co-operation of the German Adult Education Association. dvv international's work focuses on consulting services and support of adult education in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

telc GmbH
telc (The European Language Certificates) GmbH is a subsidiary of the German Adult Education Association, offering more than 50 officially recognized foreign language examinations in nine European languages (Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Portugese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish). Supporting further education for personal and professional development in the interest of the general public, the telc GmbH is recognized as a non-profit organization.
In Germany telc certificates are recognized as an official proof attesting German language competences.
