Baltic Academy

Purpose/Activities

The Baltic Academy follows the tradition of the Baltic Academy in Travemünde and continues its work. It promotes understanding and works towards fruitful partnerships in the network of the peoples and states of eastern central Europe and around the Baltic Sea.

The Academy organises about 30 educational events on political, historical, cultural and geographic topics every year. These include conferences, seminars, lectures, summer schools, excursions, exhibitions and workshops, both in Germany and abroad. The events are geared to scientists, politicians, social multiplicators and all those interested in the region.

The Baltic Academy addresses issues of politics and economics, history, literature and arts as well as cooperation among the media of the Baltic Sea area. One third of the events take place in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe, most of them as multilingual meetings. A major focus is given to the young generation showing them their opportunities in the growing economic area of the Baltic Sea region. Selected events organized by the Baltic Academy are recorded in the Colloquia Baltica series.

The Academy co-operates with German and foreign partners. It publishes proceedings and monographs and supports research projects.
