Purpose/Activities

The association of German teachers abroad (VdLiA) represents at the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA), the regional agencies and the Federal Foreign Office the interests of its members residing in a foreign country. It informs about changing and formation in German schools abroad, enhances didactics and methodology in German as a foreign language (DaF) as well as German-speaking professional lessons (DFU) and cooperates with political, pedagogic and academic institutions at home dealing with matters of international cultural exchange.

The purposes comprise:

highlighting the professional, legal and social interests of German teachers abroad,

supporting politico-cultural collaboration between Germany and foreign countries, in particular through German schools abroad,

organising information and continuing education events focusing on politico-cultural and pedagogic topics.

Periodical Publications:

  Magazine "Deutsche Lehrer im Ausland" (quaterly).
