European Educational Research Association (EERA)

Purpose/Activities

The European Educational Research Association (EERA) has been founded in June 1994 as a result of intense discussions among national associations of educational research and major educational research institutes throughout Europe. The debate highlighted the need for better European cooperation as well as for intensifying exchange between academics in the field of educational research.

Thus as a learned society the EERA specifically addresses scientific purposes in the field of educational research:

encouraging collaboration amongst educational researchers in Europe,

promoting communication between educational researchers and international governmental organisations such as the EU, the Council of Europe, the OECD and UNESCO,

improving communication amongst educational research associations and institutes within Europe,

disseminating the findings of educational research and highlighting their contribution to policy and practice.

EERA membership is made up of 23 national and regional Educational Research Associations from all parts of Europe. It is governed by the Council and the Annual General Assembly. The academic work is organised in 25 thematic networks.

The EERA annually initiates the European Conference on Educational Research. Being held in a different European host town each year, the conference usually is organised and carried through at the department/institute for education of the particular host university. Each year the conference deals with an educational research topic of major importance and relevance to the European societies.

For more detailed information about the current venue, conference dates, conference topic, registration, submission and past years' conferences please consult the rubric Annual Conference on the websites of the EERA.

Currently the Department of Education at the University of Helsinki, Finnland is the institution in charge of organising and leading through the European Conference on Educational Research 2010.
