Purpose/Activities
The European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations (EBLIDA) is an independent umbrella association of national library, information, documentation and archive associations and institutions in Europe. Its subject is to concentrate European information society issues, including
copyright and licensing,
culture and education as well as
EU enlargement
and to promote unhindered access to information in the digital age and the role of archives and libraries in achieving this goal.
The present European copyright legislation is ill equipped to deal with the future challenges of an online and digital environment and EBLIDA continues to lobby for those changes which are necessary to ensure the best possible conditions for the user of library and information services in Europe.
Therefore it constitutes the following groups:
Expert Group on Information Law (EGIL),
Joint Expert Group on Digitisation and Online Access (JEGDO),
Information and Library Education Group (ILEG),
Expert Group Education and Lifelong Learning (EGELLL),
Expert Group on Culture and Information Society (EGCIS) and
EBLIDA works together with other library and information organisations and coordinates its common interests providing a well appointed framework for the institutions and organisations.
