COMENIUS as a sectoral educational programme concerns itself with the field of school education. Being part of the EU-Programme for lifelong Learning COMENIUS belongs to the second generation of educational programmes issued by the EU. COMENIUS addresses itself to pupils from preschool via primary up to secondary school, to institutions of school education and - certain conditions provided - to institutions of vocational education as well. 

 

The following activities are in line with the programme's objectives eligible for funding:

 CoMENIUS in-service training of school education staff: one to six week in-service training activities for teachers and other categories of personnel working in the field of school education

COMENIUS-Assistantships for student teachers: grants enabling students of the teaching profession to spend 3 up to 10 months in a school abroad as an assistant teacher

COMENIUS School Partnerships: bi- and multilateral cooperation between schools in different European countries including activities as the development of joint learning projects and reciprocal class exchange

COMENIUS Regio Partnerships: bilateral partnerships between local and regional school authorities to enrich the educational offer to young people at school age particularly in border areas

COMENIUS Multilateral Projects: transnational consortia in the field of school education working together to improve initial or in-service training of teachers and other categories of personnel working in the school education sector to develop strategies or exchange experiences to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom.

 

The programme's operational objects are:

enhancing quality and extent of the mobility of participants in the field of school education (school exchange and teachers' exchange);

advancing schoolpartnerships between schools of the EU-Member States;

advancing the learning and acquirement of foreign languages;

development of digital educational materials for the use in teaching and learning;

improving the quality of vocational education and further training for teachers;

improving and advancing new methods of school pedagogics.
