Today more than half of the world’s population lives in cities. The past and the future rapid growth in urbanisation brings many challenges, not least around housing, employment, education, cultural heritage, mobility, urban planning and the environment.  Foundations in Europe are no strangers to these challenges and are in fact intrinsically linked to cities and urban areas across the continent. Their independence and standing allow them to inject creative energy into developing more sustainable, socially and culturally inclusive and competitive towns and cities for future generations. However, in the current socio-economic context of Europe, more synergies and innovation are needed to ensure effective action on this multi-faceted and complex theme. To explore these issues in depth, some 500 foundations and partners will convene in Copenhagen.

Greening the White City

Keine Stadt der Welt verfügt über einen so großen Bestand an Architektur des sogenannten International Style wie Tel Aviv. Lange Jahre unbeachtet, ist dieses Erbe Mitte der 80er Jahre wieder ins öffentliche Bewusstsein gerückt. 2003 ernannte die UNESCO Tel Aviv schließlich zum Weltkulturerbe. Seither erwarb sich Israels neueste Metropole weltweit einen einzigartigen Ruf als "Weiße Stadt". Mit der Konferenz "Greening the White City" soll das 10. Jubiläum des UNESCO-Welterbes gefeiert und gleichzeitig eine Plattform zur umweltbewussten und kultursensiblen Reflexion des Bauhaus-Erbes geschaffen werden.
